Menopause

Menopause and Anthroposophic Medicine

It is a natural process and some women do not get any hot flashes.

Spiritual aspect:

What happens in Menopause from Anthroposophic perspective? Extra soul forces become available to our consciousness as they release themselves from bodily processes. Hence, it is good time for individual growth. Consider the following:

  • Create time for yourself
  • Spend time on a hobby you enjoy
  • Study something you always wanted to study but never had the time to
  • Check in with what your values are and whether you are living your life in accordance to your values. Dr Demartini has a very good and factual, simple process for determining your values: https://drdemartini.com/values/
  • Biographical work. This work helps you make sense of various events in your life, find how they served you, and how they have helped you become who you are. Hence, you achieve integration and feel increasingly whole. This is best done either with a biographical counsellor/ with a good psychotherapist, or a counsellor whom you trust and feel supported by.

Emotional Aspect: again working with a counsellor or on your own, if not yet done, evolving towards acceptance and gratitude helps to release yourself from negative emotional factors that often affect our health adversely.

Physical aspect:

  • Cardiovascular risk for women increases at the time of change. To offset it we need to make sure our lifestyle is amazing: by eating healthily, exercising regularly and avoiding smoking and excessive alcohol. We need to keep our weight to target. (BMI 20-25 is considered healthy weight)

Ways of reducing hot flashes:

  • Reduce caffeine, alcohol, sugar and salt intake
  • Reduce weight if necessary
  • Take aerobic exercise several times a week
  • Keep your liver clean through clean diet and lifestyle, ok to drink liver detoxifying teas such as Yarrow tea. (it is completely harmless unless you have an allergy to it, which is exceedingly unlikely)
